I heard a pawstep in the forest. I slowly crept through the oak trees, trying to pick up the scent of an intruder. I haven't seen another cat in moons! I thought cheerily. Finally, another cat, maybe willing to join the clan.

I crept through the forest, burs stuck to my fur. I winced as a burr caught on a tree. I submitted to my fatigue and went limp with a sigh. I licked a small open wound on my shoulder. Carefully, ever so carefully..."OW!" I yowled, and slumped. Now the burr by my wounded shoulder dug deeper. It had reached my skin, and I was bleeding there too.

I heard strange pain meows. "Hello? Anyone out there? Do you need help?" I called aimlessly, picking up my pace.

I sucked in a deep breath. Come on, be brave. I gasped for breath, ripped out the burr and cringed, then meowed, "Yes,--er, ow!--yes, there is!"

I ran to the voice, scenting another cat scent while running. I came to a white tom, wincing in pain. "Do you need help?" I asked, calming down, trying to help him think everything was fine.

The she-cat helped me relax. She was beautiful, and had a musical voice. "Yes." I nibbled at a burr carefully, but no luck. "There's a burr that caught on this tree. I can't get it off. Do--ow!--you think you can get it?"

"I'll try my best." I breathed, looking at the burr. It was in his fur pretty good. I unsheathed my curved claws and carefully took grip of the buff with my claws only. I slowly pulled. "This may hurt." I warned, then quickly ripped out the burr because a bird had landed on my back for some strange reason. The burr came out, only with a clump of fur. I turned around, shocked. "I'm so sorry! I can be clumsy, birds always land on me." I apologized hastily, my ears back in shame.

I flinched, but grunted, "That's all right. They've done that to me, too. That's how I got these nasties on me!" I was blushing to my whiskers. I stretched my sore limbs. "Mind telling me where I am?" I asked with a grin.

I curled up next to a bush, hoping to catch a quick nap before continueing my treck towards...anywhere. I sighed in frustration, I hadn't yet found anyone on my entire mission and it was quite a let down.

I smiled. "Thanks, Stormfeather. For getting that stupid burr." I felt like a blind fool. I wanted to be more than friends. But what if she didn't really like me?

"Your very welcome." I replied. I came to the camp entrance, a bramble tunnel. "Just go in here, and make yourself a den, whatever. We do need some more fresh-kill." I offered, the scent of another cat now bugging me.

"Hold on, I need to find that cat." I added, walking away, back to the forest. I found another cat. "What are you doing laying here? You could get clawed." I said, trying to catch the cat's attention.

I bowed. "Thanks. Good luck with the cat," I meowed, but she was already gone. I sunk my fangs in a vole and dropped it in the middle of the camp, to start a fresh kill pile. I dug a den, furnished it with moss, and smiled. I flexed my claws. Perfect.

I glanced around unscented areas, and noticed a particularly scented one. Stormfeather. I sighed, and chased a three mice. I dropped one in fresh-kill, one by Stormfeather's den , and then gnawed n one myself.
