'Twas the night before Christmas

And All through the forum

Not a member was posting, not even Sparkle Mouse

The Stickies were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Varjak soon would be there;

The posters were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of the name change danced in their heads;

And socky in his 'kerchief, and Blue in his cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the thread there arose such a clatter,

He sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window he flew like Flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the crest of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to his wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little young driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Var-J.

More rabid than Blankie her coursers they came,

And she whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Pinkpup! now, Branch! now, Pumpkin and Vixen!

On, Shadow! on Midnight! on, Larka and Ginger!

To the top of the board! to the top of the forum!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the banner the coursers they flew,

With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Varjak too.

And then, in a twinkling, Blue heard on the tags

The prancing and pwnge of each little claw.

As Blue drew in his hand, and was turning around,

Down the chimney St. Varjak came with a bound.

She was dressed all in fur, from his head to her foot,

And her clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A bundle of toys she had flung on her back,

And she looked like a poster just opening her pack.

Her eyes -- how they twinkled! her dimples how merry!

Her cheeks were like roses, her nose like a cherry!

Her droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of her chin was as white as Snowy Blue;

The stump of a pipe she held tight in her fangs,

And the smoke it encircled her head like a wreath;

She had a broad face and a little round belly,

That shook, when she laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

She was chubby and plump, a right jolly young elf,

And Blue laughed when he saw her, in spite of himself;

A wink of her eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave him to know he had nothing to dread;

She spoke not a word, but went straight to her work,

And filled all the threads; then turned with a jerk,

And laying her finger aside of her nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney she rose;

She sprang to his sleigh, to her clan gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But Blue heard her exclaim, ere she flew out of sight,

"MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! AND TO ALL A RPC NIGHT!"
