Clawflower shook his head. "No. It just makes me sad when you're sad. I guess not just grins are contagious."

Fernclaw just shrugged, trying to blink away her tears. "It's just.. They're always like that, and it's so.. stupid."

"Fighting can't solve anything!" Clawflower just realized he had torn some grass up involuntarily.

"We both realize that," Fernclaw said. "I'm just not sure they do." She had managed to blink most of the tears away, sighing.

((Brb, shower.))

"Then what do we do about it?" Clawflower asked, fiddling with the blades of grass in his paws.

"Is there anything we can do?" Fernclaw murmured, thinking aloud.

"That's a rewording of what I just said," Clawflower meowed flatly. "It won't help to be loners, since then we won't have any military power. And then both Branchstar AND Mistress will be after us."

Fernclaw rolled her eyes at him briefly. "Well, we don't have to leave the Clan's.. Maybe we could somehow get Mellowstar and Branchstar to talk this out..?" Fernclaw tried to suggest, uncertain.

Clawflower scoffed mentally, and instead flicked his ears impassively. He had no comment on that, as he couldn't figure out what would go on if the duo returned to camp while the blood was still boiling. Clawflower said nothing.

"Except.. We can't just ask them to talk, they won't listen." Fernclaw was thinking aloud again, unconsciously. "Maybe.. Maybe I can somehow get Branchstar to leave, and then everything calms down.. Then I could get Branchstar, like, in the middle of the night or something to get somewhere in the forest.. And then you would get Mellowstar to come to the same place.." She trailed off.

Clawflower narrowed his eyes bemusedly. "What are you getting that? Are you sure they would listen? Or are you just saying we have to try?"

Fernclaw just shrugged. "Well, I think they'll follow us. But getting them to talk.. It's worth the shot, I think." Fernclaw said. "What's the worse that could happen if they don't wanna talk?"
Lots of things.. Fernclaw answered herself in thought.

Clawflower was once again stumped. "I'm stumped," he told her, not wanting to switch the conversation to a pessimistic one.

"I'm gonna try it," Fernclaw said, looking thoughtful. "But I'll need your help, would you be willing?"

Clawflower nodded. "What should I tell Mistress? And where should we meet?"

"Hmm.." Fernclaw said, thoughtful yet again. "Tell her.. You can't sleep, you wanna go hunting, but since you don't know the forests you were wondering if she would come. And where to meet.. How about on the border, where we first saw Branchstar earlier?"

Clawflower flicked his ears. "That was what I was thinking." His voice grew a bit more grim. "But if you're not there by a bit after moonhigh, I'll be worried. Anyway, I'll see you tonight."

"I'll be fine." Fernclaw nodded again. "See you tonight." She said.

((Yeah. And I gotta go to bed now... so if you don't show up at my house at midnight I'll be worried. xD Not really.))

Fernclaw smiled at Branchstar, who looked cheerful enough. Fernclaw had snuck in the back way to JointClan camp, and met up with her mother. She had asked why she wanted to go for a walk so late.
"I haven't seen you in forever, I guess I just wanna.. know you again." Fernclaw had replied. They were close to the meeting place, and it was nearly moonhigh.

Clawflower ducked into the leader's den. "Mistress," he whispered, nudging her lightly. "Wake up. I need to ask you something."

Mistress blinked awake, slightly drowsey. She nearly thought it was Branchstar, just because of all the commotion earlier, but recognized it as being Clawflower. "Oh, it's you," She mumbled. "Yes, what is it?" She asked wearily.

"I can't sleep. I want to go hunting so I can do something for the Clan, but I don't know my way around the forest. If I wake anyone else, they'll claw me; I'd like you to be my guide, just until we get some good prey." He clamped his mouth shut after this; mice often came out at night. Hopefully she would pick up that logic.
