Kel circled the room, deftly avoiding the swaying couples while balancing a tray of drinks in one hand. Dressed in the drab grey and silver livery of the staff, he was almost conspicuously underdressed in the elaborate ballroom. Bowing, he proffered his tray to a few ladies, older women in their forties and fifties, and they nodded acceptance. Tastes in wine never got old. The trumpet blew from a hidden alcove, signalling the entrance of a Princess. Forgetting his place, Kel stopped and froze, a few steps in front of a few more obnoxious aristocrats. He wanted to see the new arrival.
"Psst! Kel!" someone whispered dryly, pulling him back by the edge of his shirt. The fellow servingman grinned into his slightly dazed face, helping to steady the tray of drinks.
"Oh, sorry," Kel began.
"Heh, no problem. Jus' remember, them folks don't like us lower folks getting in their way." The older boy shrugged philosophically. "Whatever. They're all stuck up. They all spend so much time preparing for these balls, but only a few are even worth looking at."
"Yeah," Kel nodded, leaning against the stone wall. Fire cackled in the torch above his head, the dull orange illuminating the fringe of the ballroom with an earthy glow. "A few more are coming in now. "
"Huh," his fellow grunted, taking a stance beside him. "Wonder if this princess is anything special. Never heard of her before."
"A foreigner?" Kel raised his dark brows in surprise.
"Yup." The servingman craned his head, trying to see around the crowded nobles in front. Catching a glimpse, his eyes widened. "Oh man..."
Kel rolled his eyes, shifting his stance, booted feet softly rasping the smooth marble floor. "What, another stunning beauty?"
"Yeah." His gaze was riveted on the still far off figure of Princess Juliet.
Still non-plussed, Kel teased his friend, "What, not more beautiful than the lovely lady Natalya?"
"Yes."
Surprised, Kel put down his tray, stepping forwards into the press of people. "Really." Peering between a plump lady in orange and a solid figure in green, Kel's eyes alighted upon a pale figure, fully adorned in white. "Whoa."

Juliet slowly glanced up and spotted Kel. Her blue eyes sparkeling in the light as she looked like an angel sent from heaven. The young ninteen year old princess tilted her head to the side as she kept staring at kel. She gives the male a soft warm smile, yet only to be grabbed by her arm as her friend pulled her away into the crowd of people to mingle and dance. But as Juliet was pulled away she seemed unhappy about something.

"Hey, stunning right?" Kel's friend elbowed him out of his trance. Shaking himself, he selfconsciously backed towards the wall, then started forward again.
"Yeah." The reply was dreamy, but confused. He continued forwards, tracing Juliet's path in the crowd.
"Hold on, you can't just go up to her!"
"Whyever not?"
His friend gripped his arm, swinging him around til his back was pressed against the wall. "Look! You are servingman, a lackey, the next level up from kitchen boy." He jabbed a finger towards the crowd. "Over there is a Princess, like, you know, the second highest form of nobility! You can't just walk up to her and say hi."
Some of the murkiness cleared from Kel's eyes. "Oh, erm, r-right," he stuttered, shakenly picking up his tray of drinks. Lopsidedly smiling to his friend, he took a deep breath, stepping back into the outskirts of the crowd. "I'll get back to work now then." Now let's see, where did she go?

Juliet was listening to her friend talk gossip with some other people, letting Juliet just stand there. With a sigh the princess slowly walked away from her friend as she made her way through the crowd. She stared at her feet not even noticing where she was headed. All she could think about was that guy she saw.

Swerving slightly, Kel wove through the colourful crowd. Where did she go?
Turning slightly, he muttered an apology, his elbow lightly brushing a figure behind him. He gasped, taking in the full figure of Princess Juliet.
"I-I-..."

Juliet froze in her tracks upon feeling someone's elbow brush up against her. Slowly looking up she lets her eyes take in the view of Kel. She just stares at him then quietly whispers with a small smile, "Hello."

Kel stood, momentarily stunned as Juliet turned to look at him. She's beautiful![i/] he gasped.
"I-I," he began, trailing off awkwardly. [i]Geez, why does this have to be so difficult? Feeling Juliet's gaze continue to linger, he automatically asked, "What?" somewhat perplexed. Next moment, he gasped, completely embarrassed. "I, uh..."

Juliet smiles at Kel listening to him talk yet only momentsrily giggles at hiw he was acting. awweh how cute!

Hearing Juliet giggle, Kel's face blushed fiercely. He resisted the urge to look down at his feet, scuffing his boot on the floor. Juliet continued to look at him, something like a smirk playing at the edges of her face. Kel stood there, the time slipping by in awkward minutes. Come on, do something!his mind screamed to his unfunctioning body.
"Erm...uhh..." What do other people do when standing next to gorgeous princesses?
"Uhh...may I have this dance?" Kel managed to stammer out.

Juliet stood there waiting for this boy to say at least something. Even though, he seemed the most interesting thing Juliet had seen all night. She grins. "You may." She implies

Well, now you've done it, Kel's paranoia grumbled in his head. Just go ahead, you common servant, and just ask the Princess to dance. Hesitantly, he stuck out a hand, gulping as Juilet's hand carefully brushed his. Hope I know what I'm doing.

Juliet smiled as she placed her hand with Kel's.

During the first few steps, Kel was hesitant, expecting every moment for Juliet to simply disappear, or for someone to drag him out of the ballroom and back to his position near the kitchen. After a minute, he grew more confident, allowing him to really appreciate Juleit's light dancing skill. I'm glad I dance decently, he thought, easily maneuvering around one particularly oafish dancing couple. He hoped Juliet wasn't growing bored, as for him it was as if they'd already been dancing forever, each second slowly moving onward with the weight of hours.

Juliet kept taking quick glances around the room hoping nobody saw her dancing with this guy. Yet she liked him, he seemed different from all the other men that were here. She liked that. She slightly glanced at her feet as they danced.

Several times, Kel half opened his mouth to speak, but he could never articulate anything before he was once again stunned by Juliet's beauty. With a start, he realized someone was tapping his shoulder.
"Pardon me, but I believe the princess has promised me this next dance," a tall man stated smoothly. Guiltily, Kel backed away, realizing belatedly he'd missed the cutoff to the end of the last dance. Hey, don't get greedy now. One dance is way more than I should expect, he thought, watching with jealous eyes as the other man took his place with Juliet.
At least he didn't notice I'm not even nobility.

Juliet gazed at Kel as they danced yet holding back laughing as the guy kept trying to say sonething but didn't. The princess hid her emotion of unhappiness towards having to stop dancing with Kel and begin to have to dance with this man. Hmph! When did i ever promise you anything! Juliet thinks aloud to herself. Yet as she and the man danced she found herself scanning the place for Kel with hopeful eyes.

With an effort, Kel relaxed his face, replacing the scowl with a blank look. He began moving to the outside of the crowd, leaning against the wall, scanning for Juliet. Realizing he would have to wait til at least the next dance, he sighed, settling in for an interminably long wait. His eyes lingered on the swirl of dancing figures, a small spark lighting his eyes every time he glimpsed Juliet. His wandering gaze took in the whole room, noticing with a detached concern that the ornate chandelier over the dance floor was swaying back and forth.
What in the world?

Juliet continued to dance with the man, being twirled around feeling dizzy all of a sudden. Pretty soon the song had ended and juliet had wandered away from the man searching for that guy she had been dancing with earlier unaware of the swaying chandilure above. It was hanging lower than before and swaying much faster. Juliet pushed her way past some people apparently still right above the chandulire.

Images of conspiracy theories ran through Kel's head as his thoughts raced frantically. Taking long strides, he swiftly ducked out of the main room, climbing the stairs to the upper rooms. He had to find what was making the chandelier shake. The only way to do that was in the room above, where the fixture was located. Does someone want to make it fall?

Meanwhile a shadowy looking man was using a saw to make the chandelier fall. It was now only hanging on by three wires.

Trying to calm his rampaging thoughts, Kel tried to slow his rush up the stairs. He halted before a closed wooden door, laying a hand upon the heavy iron knob. Why am I overreacting? So, the chandelier is shaking. Shaking his head, he leaned forward, opening the solid barrier with surprisingly little resistance. Thankfully, he fell to the ground, rolling out of the way of a barrage of hits by a hooded swordsman. Whoa, what's going on?
