Mellowstar nuzzled her kits lovingly, if a creature like her could love. Bashkit, a almost four moon kit, romped and played with his siblings playfully.

Amberkit batted her brother softly. "I'm not annoying!" She protested.

Raincloud giggled as the kit jumped on her tail. She grinned and watched Amberstar leave, wishing it were at all possible to have a good time with her kits. She headed into the warriors' den; it was empty, except for Stripepelt, since everyone else was out. The queen kept her voice low. "Stripepelt, I'm going to the Mooncliff for tonight. Be back later." She touched noses with him to say goodbye.

Brackenheart turned and dashed, grabbing Firefeather by the scruff of his neck and dropping him at a safe distance from the edge in an instant. Like the loyal warrior he was. "Are you all right?"

Stripepelt lifted his head, and touched noses with her. "See you later." Stripepelt said, his voice low.

Larchheart smiled at the obnoxious kits. "So... I'll choose cats for the morning patrol.

She turned and padded over to the Highrock. "Nightmask, Lionpaw and Stripepelt will be going on the dawn patrol.'

Nightmask heard his name called for the patrol and he stood near the entrance, waiting.

(( It's like, almost night time now, though.. ))

Raincloud bounded out of the den before anyone could see her, watching as the sun set and creeping north, away from the Dawnfield and MellowClan territory. She was padding calmly away, up towards the rising stars.

Amberstar batted Amberkit and Wolfkit. "You two behave. Pufflekit hasn't spoken a word and doesn't care! While you two fill your brains with honey!" She growled.

Darkfang smiled.

Wolfkit growled and muttered something under his breath. "Pufflekit hasn't said anything? She already THOUGHT something." He muttered. Amberkit felt like she heard something in her head, and then nothing. "Woah! WEIRD!" She grinned.

Bashkit pounced at Darkfang, his father's, tail. "Got it!" Bashkit cried, holding the tail up proudly. He had never been outside camp, and was iching to go out. "What's outside our camp, Dad?" He asked.

Darkfang shook his head. "No. You'll wonder into the good. We're evil." He growled lightly, thinking of his brother, Lionstar.

Amberstar looked at Pufflekit. "You did?" She sighed. Pufflekit nodded sheepishly. Amberstar sighed. "I give the powers around here. Lucky you three. No one should know. I hope."

Wolfkit nodded. "Does Darkfang and Mellowstar know?" He asked suddenly, he had heard stories about them.

Bashkit nodded. "Yeah, but they won't think I'm evil. I could go into camp.. And spy!" He said. He was kinda lying, and kinda not. He could do that, but he really just wanted to go outta camp.

Amberstar shook her head.


Darkfang looked at Mellowstar. "What do you think?"

Wolfkit nodded. "Good. I don't want THEM knowing." He sneered. Amberkit rolled her eyes.

Mellowstar looked at her kit, and he looked hopeful. "Well.. I don't suppose it would do any harm." She said slowly and carefully. She looked at her mate. "And you?"

Darkfang shrugged. "Sure."


Amberstar smiled.

Bashkit grinned, and nodded. "Alright, be back soon." He said, and bounded away. He picked his way through the forest, grinning at himself. He was clever, wasn't he, for thinking like that. He soon scented cats, and crept slowly and cautiously.

Amberkit and Wolfkit grinned.

Brackenheart beckoned to Firefeather. "Let's go."

Raincloud thought as she approached the cliff. It wasn't only the problem that they would know whose kits her kits were. But also... she had sworn to kill Mellowstar in a certain number of moons. And with kits, she couldn't do that.

The sadness had welled up inside her from all this, and when she arrived at the cliff, gazing pleadingly at Silverpelt. "My ancestors... I need help. I don't know what to do!"

She fell asleep without even knowing. Her mother, Riverstep, and her father, Bramblefang, approached.

"Bramblefang was not from SnowClan as I was," the gray queen explained. "He was actually of RockClan, living on the stone cliffs just below our territory."

Bramblefang nodded, pressing close to his mate.

"That's not how it works for me," Raincloud wailed. "I'm a medicine cat. The consequences could be a lot more serious!"

"It's practically the same thing," Bramblefang said gently, laying down next to his only kit and wrapping his tan tail around her. "Having kits against the warrior code..."

"We may have been killed for it," Riverstep put in, "But the leaders were harsh and ruthless. It was a time of war, and we were the only two willing to oppose them."

"What we're trying to say is...

"Don't worry," they said in unison. And with that, they faded. The wind carried a last voice into Raincloud's ear. "You'll find the answer..."

Raincloud awoke, shaking her head. She was shivering slightly.

"I sure hope so," she muttered to herself, hurrying to get back to her Clan... the warm camp... Stripepelt.

Raincloud entered the camp carefully, trying not to cause too many others to notice her. She slunk off to her den, but wasn't afraid of Stripepelt noticing her. Actually, honestly she really wanted to see Stripepelt again, even just after the night, but she couldn't just go up to him, since others would suspect something. Instead, she sat in front of her den, her eyes anxiously on the entrance to the warriors' den.

Amberstar nodded. She sniffed and growled. "Mellowstar!" She hissed. She twitched her ears.



Firefeather tried, and slipped his jerked and he griminced in pain.

Brackenheart gave a gentle nudge towards the cave, and the two were inside.
