Preface

Branchstripe paused, as he padded around BranchClan camp. So long ago, when Redstar was the leader. Branchstripe sniffed the air, and stiffened. Blood. He scented blood, a little ways from camp.
Branchstripe raced away, and found the body of his dead clanmate, Fadedshadow, laying in the dust. He was bloody, and cold.
The deputy was dead.

Chapter 1

Branchstripe heaved the body onto his back, and carefully, but briskly headed back to camp. Gasps were heard all around as Branchstripe entered the camp slowly.
Redstar came bounding up. "Branchstripe! What happened to Fadedshadow!" Redstar asked, eyes wide.
"I found him near came, he was killed by something.." Branchstripe trailed off, shivering from ears to tail tip. What if it was a badger, there was reported badger sightings from ShadeClan lately..
Redstar sighed, and took Fadedshadow. She layed him in the center of camp, and the Clan sat a silent vigel for him. "New deputy.." Redstar murmured to herself, Fadedshadow was still so young..
