| Mary Sues. And Gary Stues, the male version. XD We are all guilty of thinking up atleast one in our lifetime, and we hate them too.
What is a Mary Sue? You may create one without knowing it.
-Impossibly beautiful or handsome with cool markings and whatnot. -Something happened to their family or the rest of their species, clan, pack, etc. that wasn't their fault, and they are the lone survivor. -Someone's hunting them down. -Everyone who meets them wants to be their friend or is swooning over them. -Sounds like the opposite of above, but is still a Mary Sue characteristic: everyone is their enemy; no one likes them. -Has a nickname or alias that can be complex, or dangerous sounding like "Sinister Eel". XD -For girls, slender, thin, or tall. For guys, large, tall, masculine. -Very smart, very physically fit, and can't tell a lie. -Just has that sparkling personality where they can do no wrong--honest, humble, brave, loyal, on and on... -Angst. Lots and lots of angst. -Good at singing/playing instruments. -Learns quickly. -Or learns slowly, earning theirself some abusive or clingy tutor. -Good with weapons. -Has a particular skill and is known for it. -Animals and people immediately like them. -Extensive powers (or powers that can kill them) -A magical being. Vampire (-cough-, EDWARD CULLEN...-cough-) elf, werewolf, etc. -Immortal. -Half-bred. (like half-vampire, wolf-fox, liger, etc.) -In any clubs/teams. -Captain or president of their club or team. -An outcast. -Dazzling, sparkling, perfect, godly, marble, cold, charming, beautiful, handsome, scorching topaz/ochre, strong, pale, flawless, and icy. Biggest Gary Stu I've seen in my life. -disgustedness- -Does the impossible, or always succeeds. [courtesy of darksong] -Just the opposite, never succeeds. [courtesy of darksong]
All of these can contribute to a Mary Sue or Gary Stu. If you have a character who applies to these, post your characters bio and information. The members of RPC shall determine--Is your character a Mary Sue or Gary Stu? How can we change that?
SO I DECREE. XD

| Nice Socky. But i don't agree on some of those. SO HA.
All my charries have at least one of those. xD Pretty much everyones. Mary/Gary Sues are mainly perfect or hated charecters. There.

| Thanks. :3 And Leafins, if you have more than three of those, you may have a Mary Sue or Gary Stu on your hands. XD | |

| Yeah, I'll admit, I've made one or two. But some of those are NOT mary-sue characteristics. Close, but not quite. Like the team/club thing. Whats wrong with being on the basketball team? Or being the prestident in student council? As long as their not both of those + Captain of the volleyball team and a mentor to 6 year olds with perfect shining hair and eyes. Then I understand, hah. | |

| I mean like impossibly good. They learn it right away. OR the opposite, they don't get it at all. I'm good at playing an instrument too. But I'm just sayin'. And the president thing...what was I thinking when I put that...OH YEAH, High School Musical's lead characters are definitely Mary Sue and Gary Stu. Am I right or am I right? XD And there's nothing wrong with being on the team, but it's that they'll be the only sane one or the only person "keeping the values and purpose" of the club, or awesomely awesome at football or something. But alot of Mary Sues and Gary Stus will be the president of a club or captain of a team, so that's why I popped it in there. They aren't the main defining characteristics, but they are commonly found in Mary's and Gary's, so I'd say if you have most on that list for a character, they are Mawwy Gawwy's.. :]
WHAT? DID I JUST GO :] ?!

| (THE CODES AREN'T WORKING, JUST READ THE ENTIRE THING) Okay, If It's bold, I believe it's a Mary Sue/Gary Stu characteristic, if Italisized, I say not, {Commentary by yours truely}:
-Impossibly beautiful or handsome with cool markings and whatnot. {Of course, this is and will always be a basic} -Something happened to their family or the rest of their species, clan, pack, etc. that wasn't their fault, and they are the lone survivor. {Sometimes these are needed in plots, or plot keys. Yes it is used a lot, but it's more a frequent plot, not a characteristic.} -Someone's hunting them down. {^Ditto} -Everyone who meets them wants to be their friend or is swooning over them. {This is another basic} -Sounds like the opposite of above, but is still a Mary Sue characteristic: everyone is their enemy; no one likes them. {I, personally, do not believe this one to be a characteristic either, yes, it's a little controlling of peoples emotions and you can't do that. This can be called one though, because people need to make their own opinions.} -Has a nickname or alias that can be complex, or dangerous sounding like "Sinister Eel". XD {This isn't one, sometimes people have aliases and they are evil. Think of Hulk/Bruce, he's not a Gary Stu, that's just his flaw.} -For girls, slender, thin, or tall. For guys, large, tall, masculine. {This is a major one people do often.} -Very smart, very physically fit, and can't tell a lie. {Again, major one people do.} -Just has that sparkling personality where they can do no wrong--honest, humble, brave, loyal, on and on... {Again...} -Angst. Lots and lots of angst. {Lord, I HATE angst. It's horribly tacky. Enough said.} -Good at singing/playing instruments. {Everyone has something their good at, they just can't be excedingly wonderful at a young age. Prodigies don't happen that often. xD} -Learns quickly. {I completely disagree, xD, I learn pretty fast, does that make me a Mary Sue? No, it's just something I'm good at.} -Or learns slowly, earning theirself some abusive or clingy tutor. {It's annoying, but not a characteristic of a perfect character. This only counts if they are aiming for the clingy person to always RP with them. It's not cool to hog someone. (Yeah, I do it with Jake. Deal with it. xD)} -Good with weapons. {Plot Key, 'Nuf said. Unless... Well, gosh, this could be one in a circumstance where everyone has weapons, they can't be exccedingly good at them, better than the others, even if they are 'Leader'. This is not one, if you are known for something, you can't help that. Maybe you're just good at it.} -Animals and people immediately like them. {True that, they can't have everything in the palm of their hand.} -Extensive powers (or powers that can kill them) {Got to have a flaw in the power Sock-ster} -A magical being. Vampire (-cough-, EDWARD CULLEN...-cough-) elf, werewolf, etc. {Only counts if it's in a non-magical RP} -Immortal.{If it's part of a plot, it's alright of course, but if it's a normal or magical RP, don't do it. It's so annoying.} -Half-bred. (like half-vampire, wolf-fox, liger, etc.) {Nope, not one. It's a character. Everyone's different, You wouldn't call someone who was white and Hispanic a Mary Sue would you?}-In any clubs/teams. {Lord, Really Sock? Come on, One of my characters is in Writing Club, does that make them a Mary Sue? No, it doesn't count unless they are excedingly good at whatever their in, they can't be perfect.} -Captain or president of their club or team. {No, they just can't be President and Captain of everything. I agree with Alley.} -An outcast. {This ties in with the everyone-hates-them one, you can be an outcast. As long as you don't control other people's thoughts or feelings towards you.} -Dazzling, sparkling, perfect, godly, marble, cold, charming, beautiful, handsome, scorching topaz/ochre, strong, pale, flawless, and icy. Biggest Gary Stu I've seen in my life. -disgustedness- {Loved those books, hated him. You Can't be perfect, you've got to have some sort of flaw. (Even though he is really protective.)} -Does the impossible, or always succeeds. [courtesy of darksong] {I agree, you can't always succeed at everything. No one is perfect! xD} -Just the opposite, never succeeds. [courtesy of darksong] {This is a give or take, you've got to be good at something, but sometimes you really never succeed at anything.}
So, that was that. xD, Socky, It's a good list, I just disagree with some of them.

| Yes, Becca, thank you for making my point. *cough* that lowered some of my charries. xD Just kidding. But seriously. Some of those on your meter Socky are just how people are. If we followed every each one of those, we'd have nothing "surprising" in our charries. xP | |

| And so I shall explain. -deep breath- Just because a character has a characteristic on this list does not make them a Mary Sue or Gary Stu! And I didn't specifically have RP charries in mind when I made this. All of these are just characteristics that are overused and pretty much every Mary Sue you've seen in comics, books, movies, etc. has one of these overused characteristics so that's why I put them on there. They are "canon", if you will. I didn't have anyone's character in mind, so I wasn't pointing at you or anything Leafins. X3
I SHALL SMACK YOU BACK! XD I'll say why I put that on there. The "basic" ones I put myself, then I stole from a list of Mary Sue characteristics. XD
-Something happened to their family or the rest of their species, clan, pack, etc. that wasn't their fault, and they are the lone survivor. {Sometimes these are needed in plots, or plot keys. Yes it is used a lot, but it's more a frequent plot, not a characteristic.} [Exactly. Sometimes they just make a better plot or story, but it's too overused.]
-Someone's hunting them down. {^Ditto} [They should enter the WPP. XD]
-Sounds like the opposite of above, but is still a Mary Sue characteristic: everyone is their enemy; no one likes them. {I, personally, do not believe this one to be a characteristic either, yes, it's a little controlling of peoples emotions and you can't do that. This can be called one though, because people need to make their own opinions.} [I know we aren't in control of other peoples' emotions, but a lot of people are just emo and "EHHHH NO ONE LIKES ME!!". In some cases that MAY BE TRUE...but mostly not.]
-Has a nickname or alias that can be complex, or dangerous sounding like "Sinister Eel". XD {This isn't one, sometimes people have aliases and they are evil. Think of Hulk/Bruce, he's not a Gary Stu, that's just his flaw.} [I didn't mean to say them having one makes them a M.S. or G.S., but all too often someone good will have this flourishing cool nickname that might have nothing to do with them, you know? And baddies aren't exactly Mary Sues, if we've got the roles in the right order. XD]
-Good at singing/playing instruments.{Everyone has something their good at, they just can't be excedingly wonderful at a young age. Prodigies don't happen that often. xD} [Sorry. That came out wrong. I meant, of course, the wonderful awesome amazing.]
-Learns quickly. {I completely disagree, xD, I learn pretty fast, does that make me a Mary Sue? No, it's just something I'm good at.} [But quick-learning falls under the smart category thingy. I'm not saying quick-learners are immediately geniuses and slow-learners are morons. I'm a fast learner in everything but math. XD And see the top paragraph explanation thing.]
-Or learns slowly, earning theirself some abusive or clingy tutor. {It's annoying, but not a characteristic of a perfect character. This only counts if they are aiming for the clingy person to always RP with them. It's not cool to hog someone. (Yeah, I do it with Jake. Deal with it. xD)} [I know people can't help it if they fall behind, but in stories it happens alot. They get either some incredible tutor or a mean one, or one that's annoying and is all like, "I BELIEVE IN YOU!"]
-Good with weapons. {Plot Key, 'Nuf said. Unless... Well, gosh, this could be one in a circumstance where everyone has weapons, they can't be exccedingly good at them, better than the others, even if they are 'Leader'. Being a leader isn't about being stronger, it's about being equal.} [I'm aware Lilliana Marie is skilled with weapons, and I didn't have her in mind (cool charrie by the way) but it's the impossible awesome thing again.]
-Has a particular skill and is known for it. {-cough- Are you serious? This is not one, if you are known for something, you can't help that. Maybe you're just good at it.} [I know. People know me as that-guy-who-draws-'good'. /badgrammar. But I mean like (and this is not a M.S.--) some evil girl being known for being good with a sword but cruel. Know what I mean? Some people are just good, I know, but see paragraph explanation.]
-Half-bred. (like half-vampire, wolf-fox, liger, etc.) {Nope, not one. It's a character. Everyone's different, You wouldn't call someone who was white and Hispanic a Mary Sue would you?} [Certainly not! Who calls white-Hispanics "half-bred" anyway? XD I meant more like animals and magic charries, not humans pertaining to skin color.]
-In any clubs/teams. {Lord, Really Sock? Come on, One of my characters is in Writing Club, does that make them a Mary Sue? No, it doesn't count unless they are excedingly good at whatever their in, they can't be perfect.} [Being in a club doesn't make them perfect specifically. See top paragraph. Almost every human Mary Sue or Gary Stu will be in a club of some sort. I'm in Art Club, Forensics, and Beta Club.]
-Captain or president of their club or team. {No, they just can't be President and Captain of everything. I agree with Alley.} [I realize I've worded this stuff wrong, and I apologize, but that's what I'm trying to get across. Being good at everything.]
-An outcast. {This ties in with the everyone-hates-them one, you can be an outcast. As long as you don't control other people's thoughts or feelings towards you.} [Well, yeah. You may be an outcast, but, again, Mary Sues and Gary Stus found commonly in books, movies, blahdeedah might be an outcast.]

It's not a fight. I prefer Forceful Instigation Gumdrop Hillbilly Talk.
Yes, I made that up. Why do you ask? XD
