The Neverending
2376 A.D - SOON A.D

"It was hot. Too hot. Things were starting on fire, bombs everywhere. She watched as her home was destroyed, her husband and child still inside. Her ears were roaring and she stumbled through the havoc and chaos of New York. There was no escape. Everywhere in the world was like this. Global warming, wars... The Ozone was gone and the moon too close. Everyone was on edge and some countries have tipped off. Last week, when they still had cable, it was said that Europe had sunk underwater and Russia was nothing but ashes and bodies. She couldn't see, couldn't hear. She slipped on something red and warm, and didn't have the curate to get up.
The world was ending.
Mere minutes before all humans were wiped out, a child was born. The first Wester, the first mayor of Kastem. This baby was taken underground with his mother and his to-be wife, another young child. They were evacuated with any other survivors and locked underground, in a country-like area.
This was The Neverending.
"

Welcome to the City of Nothing. That's what it's inhabitants call it, anyway. It once was a thriving underground city, full of happy people with happy lives. It was only one of the towns that surrounded an even bigger city, Called Kastem. No one questioned Kastems authority, or the Mayor. They never asked about the past or future of their home underground. Not until now.
As they start to run out of suppose, people panic. The Mayor has to do something before everything goes bad. So he turned to the most obedient people of the Neverending. City of Nothing. Each year they are to send a numb roof teenagers to Kastem to compete against a team from Kastem itself. It's a race to find out who's best, and who can save the Neverending. Kastem's team always seems to win, but when sent out to investigate for a way out of their home, they never find anything. Soon, all gave up hope, and the competitions just became for fun, something to watch as their only home crumbles and fails.
This year is the three hundredth anniversary of Neverending. Food is scarce, but technologic breakthoughs thrives. People start eating virtual food, which makes them impassive and without personalities, but it's food. There are hovercrafts and the strangest fashion statements, plus Face ranks and more. The Neverending is better than it every has been, but it just lost all the happiness.
Something changes, this year. Eight teenagers who are picked for the Games are different. None have eaten the Fake food, but each differs immensely. The four from Nothing are poor but skilled in anything that doesn't involve technology. The four from Kastem are rich, powerful and amazing with technology. Each have their own flaws and ways they are perfect. Nothing's are clever and secretive, while Kastem's are manipulative and snobby. Everything goes as planned until the obstacle course holding all the challenges malfunctions. They demand a new course, so the Mayor gives them the only one he has.
Find the way out of Neverending. But the Mayor was never the most honest man around...

The Insider for the Kastem team

"But Dad, I don't want to go!" Auden Wester whined, stomping his foot like an impatient child. His Dad, the Mayor and most powerful man around these days, rubbed his head, looking tired and annoyed.
"You don't have a choice, Auden. I need you to do this. You know you'll win, so why does it matter?" He sighed, staring at his son, as if trying to piece together how winning the most exciting part of the Neverending could be a problem. Auden folded his arms, his lower lip sticking out, as if he was set on driving his father up a wall. It was defiantly working, which made Auden just want to keep pushing until he got what he wanted and how he wanted it.
"I don't want to be near those filthy Nothing children." The boy complained, but was cut off as the door opened, and someone motioned for his father to come out. It must be time to announce the other contestants. Everyone knew Auden was entering, but it was just the seven other contestants that had to be figured out. It would broadcast everywhere, to Kastem and Nothing. The spoiled teenager stalked after his father, the argument hopelessly lost, which was unusual. He always got what he wanted, no matter what. It could probably be an official rule, if Auden wanted it that way. That way, no one could say no to him. Not even that pretty girl he saw around every now and then, Sunday. She obviously didn't care about him or anything, but Auden didn't mind. Nobody really liked him for his personality, just his looks, and he liked it like that. Sentimental stuff meant nothing to Auden whatsoever.
Auden took his place a little ways behind his dad, looking bored as they waited for the cameras to start rolling. He shoved away someone who tried to put makeup on his face. Men didn't wear makeup, and he already looked beautiful. He didn't need fake powder that caused acne to screw up his facial features. He plastered his award winning smile on his face as as they announced they were currently on air. His dad started to list the daily information, then started going through the Game's introduction. Auden tried his best to not look half-awake or bored, but he couldn't help slipping a little, which caused the Cameraman to glare at him, and Auden corrected himself.
His father took a black bucket from someone on his right after a moment. He shifted through the papers, and pulled four out. "For the female contestants, we have Jenni Korens, Rhea Thomas, Sunday Bancroft and [insert unknown character]." He said, putting the papers back in and taking another container. "The other male contestants are Auden Wester, Mare Felinus, Paul Thomas and Daniel Fisher." He finished, smiling at the camera.

The Silent for the City of Nothing Team

Jenni sighed, her body splayed on the rickety thing they called a couch. It didn't count as one, because it had so many holes and missing pieces, it was more like an uncomfortable lump. The small T.V was buzzing with static as she tried, and she ended up watching the most popular channel around here. It was so cool with all the grey, flashing lights. Jenni groaned, rolling over, but ended up getting a spring in her face. She sat up, rubbing the place where the metal had indented into her skin. She looked up, startled when the screen flickered, and the mayor's face appeared on screen. Oh, shit. That meant that it was time for the game announcements.
"Ma!" Jenni called, turning it up louder. Her mother appeared and sat by her, looking concerned. She said nothing, which was common, because her mom was mute. The Mayor started going through the regular announcements, and Jenni tuned out until he took a black bucket from someone off screen.
"For the female contestants, we have Jenni Koren..." His voice seemed to just die away after that. What? No. That's impossible. Her mom put a hand to her mouth, looking horrified. Jenni had lost her younger sister to the games years before, and now she was going to die? Who would take care of her mother and Pinkie, the frail, ugly cat that claimed their house as his? She clutched her mom's hand, seeming close to tears now. All contestants were suppose to report to the Commons if they're name is called to board the train, but Jenni couldn't move.

Rhea Kaylee
The Hunter

Rhea's jet black hair flew out behind her like a raven's wings beating against the wind. Her bright brown eyes were full of mirth as she took a dive, skidding on the dirt and cobblestone roads, scratching her knees and legs as she landing in a heap up against the side of one of baker's carts. Her slightly crazed laugh filled the air, loud as she pulled herself up and looked down at her new set of scars, poking one of them and wiping the blood off with her finger. Rhea tilted her head down to look at the red substance for a moment, knowing that if Paul knew what she was doing, he would be extremely unhappy with her. He was a killer of fun. A Joy murderer. An Evil-doer.
Her eyes narrowed at the blood before she wiped it on the bottom of her brown dress and turned, wide eyes landing on a rusty TV which was flickering in and out over and over again. Cocking her head at it, Rhea blinked, her eyes as large as an owl's. Something was going to happen today, she remembered years before, something always happened on this day. Her mind wouldn't let her remember. Just the faint recall of a dream or nightmare from her past, whispering in the depths of her mind, ready and willing to leap forward at a moments notice, but staying silent for the time being. Rhea hummed a short tune, soft and solumn, like a death march, her eyes flickering to follow ever movement on the old TV, watching, waiting, holding her breath.
Then, the man began to speak. The man whom she knew as the Mayor, the one who called people to their deaths.
"What a sad thought." Rhea muttered as the man listed off boring things, then, her own name flew from his lips, her brother's not long after. Rhea's head tilted a little more to the side, and she smiled ever so slightly, "How quizzical. I better get home before Paul has a heart-attack. Doctors can't fix themselves you know." She giggled as she flew back towards her home, wishing her brother would have the same facial expression as when he had first heard the news.

Paul Apollo
The Healer

The games are an atrocious creation by the government to pit one human against another for social and political enjoyment. Everyone chooses their favorite, then they try their best to help that poor soul to not be killed. I, myself, refuse to take part in such a barbaric show of sport, but my age has gotten the best of me. I feel I will not be in the clear until I become an Adult in Kastem's eyes, which could be one year, or several. I would never leave my sister, for anything. Rhea is the only other Thomas left, and I am not risking her to take part in some folly race that takes place each year. Eight humans... eight beings... forced to race against one another for what? Social gain?
I felt sickened, watching as the Mayor began speaking, his son also visible on the television. There were reports of small uproars, but he assured everyone that it was nothing and continued like talking about his own people dying didn't make him sicken. The sheer idea of someone loosing their life because they did not have enough medical supplies, or the right doctor made my stomach drop to the ground and feel like it was being danced on. I chose to help people, not only because I knew I was good at it and it was a skill of mine, but because it was right.
The Mayor had pulled out a bucket now, and I focused, praying that neither mine or my sister's names would be called.
Both of them were.
"No." I breathed, heart racing as Rhea opened the door, laughing, I didn't hear her words, other than 'Paulie?' before I completely shut down. This could not be happening, it would not happen to us.

Sunday Lia Bancroft
here & beyond - I - The Neverending Ending Sudscooper_5
the nerd the technological genius for Team Kastem

Sunday Lia Bancroft wouldn't have been honest if she'd said she didn't expect to be picked for this years Games. They might say choosing names is random but, guess what? Sunny knew better. She knew that the names were pre-picked and no matter what, the names wouldn't change. The Mayor was incredibly stubborn, you see, as is his stuck-up son, the grand Auden Wester. For the past couple of years now, the boy had had a crush on her, no matter how small. It wasn't sentimental or "true love" or whatever, just a simple crush that, as soon as he saw all the other girls entered into the competition, would disappear. Auden, however, was determined to get her to fall all over him (as did many of the girls in Kastem), so what better way to do so than make sure she was entered into the Games? Bloody idiot, Auden Wester was. Didn't he get that for him to win (which was most definitely his goal), she'd probably have to die first or something? Sigh. It was a good thing he was cute, now wasn't it?
While she couldn't quite remember if it were the whole team who won, or just one member of the team who won, there wasn't a doubt in her mind that if it were the first, then there would be some sort of twist. In the Games, social status and rank didn't matter. In the Games, all that mattered was survival. In the Games, all that mattered was the entertainment of those who weren't risking their lives to play them. If it grew boring, having the whole team win, no doubt that there would be a twist in which only one team member may win. If it came down to something similar to that, she'd honest to God want Auden to win. It's not as if her parents loved her or anything, she had two brothers and a younger sister who were far more charming and successful than herself. They'd be alright if she lost her life. Besides, she didn't want Auden dying. Yes, she liked him. Whatever, okay? Whatever.
"Darling, isn't this wonderful?" Her mother laughed gleefully, putting her arm around the petite blonde-girl, sitting rigidly on the couch. Her mother was no less than beautiful, no less than successful and powerful. Her daughter, however? Plain, timid, possibly brilliant but did that even matter in this day and age? Probably not. Technology changed every day, all day. Nothing she said or did mattered, now did it? She wasn't beautiful, nor successful, nor powerful. She was just... Sunday. Sunday Lia Bancroft, eldest daughter to clearly disappointed parents.
"Yes, isn't it, pumpkin?" Her father agreed wholeheartedly, ruffling her hair affectionately. All Sunny could do was sit there and stare at the television as they listed off the names gleefully. Lust for blood was in their eyes, and blood they would soon get. So many lives were lost to the Games, just for entertainment. Just to show that the government could do whatever it damn well pleased. Quite frankly, it pissed her off. Auden didn't know any better than to go along with it, of course, and neither did most of the world but the adults? The government? They knew better but continued to do it. She supposed if she lived through this, it might be okay. She might not care, purely because the chances of being entered again were slim.
"Oh, yes. Of course it it is." Answered Sunny obediently, addressing both of her parents with a nod of her head. There was no fighting it, so, you might as well go along with it. Besides, she lived in Kastem and not with the filty Nothings. As much as she preached and tried to be "perfect", in a sense, there was no denying that if she had to pick, she'd pick being a pampered crush of the Mayor's son over being an unfortunate soul who lived in Nothing, hands down. "It's spendid."

OOC: I sincerely apologize for this fail of a post. I suppose it's decent, purely because Sunny does tend to ramble and this is mostly just ramblings from the mind of a half-sane "technological genius".

Mare Felinus
Kastem's Reckless

Mare wasn't exactly sure what he was doing when he heard the Mayor call out his name. Probably because he wasn't doing anything. He was sleeping, no doubt about that, as he was prone to sleep "a little bit longer than the average tyke" as his mother would say. However, it took everything he had to not completely topple off of his mattress of comfort when his mum rattle him awake, quite loudly at that. There was no one else in the house but the two of them, as it always was. Mare could never remember his father at all, Mum saying he left before he was born.
"Sweety, guess what Mummy found out?" She cooed into his ear, Mare having finally calm down from the initial shock he received after his rest was disturbed. He rolled his eyes, "Mother, why must you always get into the mindset that I'm a toddler when something 'exciting' happens?"
"Sorry, pumpkin pie, it's just that, well, the Mayor drew your name out of the hat for the Games! You're gonna be in the Games, just like you told me you wanted to!" She smiled, happy that her son had finally gotten one thing that he wanted. "Mom, if I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times, it was just a silly little fantasy," Mare replied, rolling onto his side. "Sweety darling," the mother continued, a bit more nervously, "You know how mad the Mayor gets when you don't cooperate. Besides, maybe you can make some new friends! I'm su-" She was cut off by her son rolling out of the bed, still in his jeans and t-shirt. "Geez, Mom, are you trying to block us off? Those games are deadly, Mum, deadly, and quite frankly, I don't give a damn if I've wanted to be in it my whole life! That's like pretending to be one of the Nothings for those games I played when I was a kid!" He yelled, getting up and walking over to the closet across from his mattress grabbing a bag and stuffing it with clothes and other necessities. "Mare Felinus, I have forbidden you to say those words and now is not the time to break that rule!" the mother retorted, tears welling up as he tried to stop her only son, but it was too late. His bag was already packed and he had left the house, making a bee line towards the park, leaving only a sticky note on the desk next to the entrance, with a sloppily written, "Love you, Mum.

"- Mare"
